Helter Mother Fucking Skelter.
Jon Stewart offered warm and sobering commentary on the Arizona shootings. A look at Loughner’s mugshot reminds me how insane it is to try to figure out crazy or think that crazy can be predicted…that’s why it’s called crazy. It can’t.
That’s not an excuse for letting the national discourse resemble madness. And it has.
Stewart gave an idea about how to find comfort in the aftermath of tragedy. He suggested letting the lives of the dead and wounded seep into your own life:
Read up about those who were hurt and/or killed in this shooting. You will be comforted by just how much anonymous goodness there really is in the world. You read about these people, people that you don’t even know, people that you’ve never met are leading these lives of real dignity and goodness and you hear about crazy, but it’s even rarer than you think.
“And I think you’ll even find yourself more impressed with Congresswoman Giffords, and how much living the deceased packed into to lives that were cut way too short. And if there is real solace in this, I think it’s that for all the hyperbole and the vitriol that’s become a part of our political process, when the reality of that rhetoric, when actions match the disturbing nature of words we haven’t lost our capacity to be horrified. Please let us hope we never do.”
So far, Loughner faces federal charges including two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of attempting to kill a member of Congress.
looks pretty crazed to me…those eyes
crazy and calculating. lethal. the evidence collected so far shows his capacity for planning.
There’s an interesting article in the Christian Science Monitor:
“Loughner wanted to create chaos for the sake of chaos…There’s no rhyme or reason, he wanted to watch the world burn.”
Charlie Brown..Good one. I kept seeing Uncle Fester saying ” Turn him around! I’ll shoot him in the back!”
Eeeeeek. 😯
when you look at that picture, you understand why the first time he tried to buy ammo at walmart, they refused to sell it to him. it also makes you wonder why the fuck they agreed to sell it to him at the second walmart. bartenders aren’t allowed to sell booze to someone who appears to be intoxicated. if they do, they can be sued if someone gets hurt due to the patron being impaired. however, if any of the victims try to sue walmart, they’ll be laughed out of court.
Unreal that bullets like that are easily purchased at a walmart of all places.
No lesson learned from Columbine.
> That’s not an excuse for letting the national discourse resemble madness.
Not to be flip, but speaking of which, TPM juxtaposed the shooter’s mugshot with this on their front page:

Foxx is experimenting…seeing if she can make horror a little bit uglier. Success.
This country needs a violence detox.
Hate medias should be turned off.
And all the entertainment industry should consider rethinking the place of violence in fiction. What’s the effect of violence added to violence added to violence?
That fella looks like 5 weeks of bad programming.
At least! 😯
The craziest thing today is all the winger plots about how dems put him up to it and the smile in photo is because he knows they will get him off. Truth is the guy is extra nutty fruitcake who will spend the rest of his twisted life in isolation (he’d be dead spending 5 minutes in population after killing that kid). And still not a word from the Mother of all guns
I told Jean-Philippe on his site that Rush Limbaugh missed his calling in Hutu Radio. He would have made much more of a killing than he makes here.
The photo speaks for itself … so I won’t go there – but the comment about Uncle Fester did make me laugh.
In terms of Jon Stewart’s comments … simply wow! The goodness of people and the number of good people not only in this country, but across the globe continues to blow me away. They aren’t in the news, they aren’t high profile, and they may not even be well known in their community …. but they are simply good people.
Cheers!
Good abounds, Frank. And being “good” is modest, quieter. It becomes easy to overlook. 🙂
Looks like I spoke too soon! How was I to know when she did say something stupid, that she would supersize it.
😆 supersize it! 😆
