The Raw Story has written up Barack Obama’s response to Bush’s saying:
Some seem to believe we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenius argament (sic) will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We’ve heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tonks, tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared, ‘Lord if only I had talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.’ We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.
Bush stole that Hitler line from a Donald Rumsfeld speech. Time Magazine attributed the quote to Senator William Edgar Borah (R-ID), the man who helped expose Bush’s great grandfather as a war profiteer. Samuel P. Bush sat on Harding’s War Industries Board also known as the “Merchants of Death.” That Bush sold weapons to Americans and Germans during the first world war and made his fortune. Today, I guess the equivalent would be Blackwater having a security contract with us and Al Qaeda.
But, back to Obama who responded:
It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence to launch a false political attack,” Obama said in the statement. “George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the president’s extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel.”
Historically, if the American people had not been so outraged and distrustful of their own government after the profiteering scandals of WWI, it’s unlikely they would have been so reluctant to participate in WWII. Just let’s you know how completely creepy the Bushes are. But wait! There’s more.

Has anyone fact checked this supposed Borah quote? I’m doing my dissertation on Borah and I have never, ever, ever seen this quote sourced in a reputable publication.
I wonder why we haven’t talked more about the Arms of Bush. The story’s been out there, but the major media never seemed very interested. Now, lack of a flag pin – that’s important stuff.

Bob, here’s the link where Time Magazine attributes the quote to Borah. The article’s author was Brendan Nyhan. Rumsfeld said the exact same thing in his Democrats are like Nazi appeasers speech.

Found this on Yahoo: Marian Cecilia McKenna’s 1961 “Borah,” on page 360. She cites as her source William K Hutchinson’s “News articles on life and works of William E. Borah,” in which Hutchinson apparently records that Borah made the remark to him.
Maybe you have the book and could verify or comment on the credibility of the author, Bob.
My great uncle was William K. Hutchinson. I have the original book. Can I help you verify quote?
