Watch The Barber of Birmingham – Trailer on PBS. See more from POV.

If you follow news in Alabama, then you already know that Alabama Public Television has experienced a hostile takeover by people who loathe science,  the arts and facts in general*.

*religious nut, science-denying, voter-suppressing Republicans

Sad days.

I expect my favorite show, Nova, to be relegated to the 3 AM slot as Snake Handlers for Jesus moves to prime time. 😥

The coup d’etat TV will be a fait accompli at the end of August with the resignation of Charlie Grantham, COO of APT.

So much for emmy-award winning local programming.  Shout out to the Quiltmakers of Gee’s Bend!!!!

But PBS forges on with the awesome…Thursday August 9th,  PBS will air the Academy Award Nominated film, The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement.

Yaaaayyyy!!!!

In our era where Voter ID Laws are not-so-stealthily stripping individuals of the right to vote, the story of Civil Rights Foot Soldier, James Armstrong, takes you back to the days when “voting was worth dying for.”

  1. Jeez, I never thought I’d say this, but you need to move here. (AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!! Okay, now I can continue.) I’m not saying Ohio’s government is exactly a chapter of Mensa, but compared to the crap comin’ outta ‘Bama, these guys look positively EVOLVED! (Oops, sorry, I meant “intelligently designed”. 😀 )

    • I saw an interview with Mr. Armstrong’s grandson. The young man touted the 3 B’s he learned from his icon grandpa….Books, Ballot and Bucks–in other words using education, the vote and economic power to lift lives. The Foot Soldiers’ Legacy is something Alabama can be proud of.

I imagine that really must chap the hides of the current powers that be, that people once sorely oppressed and hated are the state’s redemption.
