President Barack Obama chooses ousted U.S. Attorney David Iglesias as Judge Advocate General. The Bush Administration fired Iglesias for failing to find merit in cases involving Democrats.
Iglesias’ termination was in the national spotlight for some time. U.S. Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) had called Karl Rove, and told him he wanted Iglesias out and asked Rove to take his request directly to the president.
Iglesias is a Republican. He will be responsible for prosecuting cases against terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay.
