(Writer’s lamentation: I apologize these graphics are so unsexy.  I hope the storytelling makes up for that.)

Who knew that The Department of Justice would be an audience for anything I’ve had to write about the prosecution of former Alabama Don Siegelman!  Who knew!   Yet, here they are up at the butt crack of dawn reading about one of their own, tainted U.S. Attorney Leura Canary of the Middle District in Alabama.  And they’re visiting on the very day that the forces of good and evil descend on the 11th District Appeals Court in Atlanta to decide Siegelman’s fate.  I might conclude this little cyber field trip to see little old me is a civic-minded career custodian given the early hour except:

So, I wonder what gives.

I’ll be following The Locust Fork Journal today for updates.  They are one of the forces of good that arrived last night in Atlanta to cover this story.  Let’s hope justice can be self-correcting.

Update:  Busy Beavers!  They’re ba-a-a-ack!

And they’re all up in the business of Karl Rove’s BFF Leura Canary.

10 thoughts on “DoJ and Me on Siegelman’s Court Appeal Day

  1. Maybe they’re tired of being spoon-fed crap and are actually checking shi, err, stuff out on their own?

And hey, if they’ve got to start here – so be it!

  2. Too much damning information surrounds this case. It just stinks of political maneuvers. I know a lot of anecdotal stories about the nature of southern justice, but this isn’t just limited to to the South. Karl Rove took his traveling circus to D.C. and stunk up the whole system. My fingers are crossed that the right thing happens.

  3. I read the most unbelievable opinion piece online that appeared in one of your state’s fine Pravda wannabe’s yesterday. It instructed folks to remember Siegelman’s appeal will involve “legal” issues, as opposed to the “drama” surrounding the case. Well, the “drama” – conspiracy, obstruction of justice, selective prosecution, etcetera – is what I call heavy on “legal” issues. But, okay, let’s stick to the “legal” stuff. Let’s remember when the 11th circuit ordered Siegelman’s release, the opinion stated that Siegelman’s appeal met the threshold test, that it “would raise substantial questions of law or fact.” That kind of ruling is extraordinary. And I’m not being “dramatic” when I say that, either.

  4. hg! I’ve been having galloway deprivation. Good to see you. And look at the cute little monster you have for an avatar. 😉

  5. Let’s hope that whoever from the DOJ is visiting you is reading and realizing that this could happen to him. Ms. Canary, Karl Rove and a bunch more of the Alabama gang should be treated to the same kind of trial that Don had with the same results.

  6. Hi, Magginkat. That’s the point that struck me as soon enemy combatant and detainee were injected into American English. I’m so eager for this administration to be over. I just hope what they’ve done can be undone. Siegelman, torture, prisoners kept in dog kennels, people fired because their not Bushie enough, FISA, regular mail subject to searches without cause, free speech zones, pollution credits, roads through national parks. I never imagined this much damage could be done.
