Obama would diminish “the prestige of the United States presidency.” --Sarah Palin

What a hot, ugly mess in the McCain-Palin campaign.

Bigotry among GOP supporters is not veiled in some cases:  The Obama Waffles, the Obama monkey characterizations, the video where you hear a child say, “you need gloves to touch” Obama.

“Kill him!”, “Terrorist!”, “Traitor!”, “Bomb Obama!” “Off with his head!”, and “Treason!” have all been shouted from McCain-Palin crowds giving them more of a lynch mob quality than a rally feel.  McCain finally broke with the mania when he had to take up for Barack Obama against an accusation that he is an Arab.  (It is no consolation to Arab-Americans. McCain paraphrased, Obama’s decent, he’s not an Arab.)  McCain was booed…by his own people.

But where did Republican rally goers get such an idea?  Who incited the hate?  McCain’s own campaign.  The Virginia GOP is all for the equivocation of Obama and Osama.  Palin says Obama “pals around” with terrorists.  Miss Joe-Sixpack, says Obama would diminish “the prestige of the United States presidency.”

I didn’t think it was possible, but McCain has sunk lower in his smears against Obama than Rove did against McCain in South Carolina.  How does McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis defend against the hate rally?  McCain was a POW during the Civil Rights movement….

  1. I think John McCain never imagined the loonies gravitating towards him like this. I’m convinced this is not the campaign he intended to preside over. A thought crossed my mind that he might just passively give up, rather than right the wrongs in the campaign’s current tone.

  2. The way he corrected the Minnesota woman was half-assed. Why didn’t he say we are all God’s children? He let the insult to Arabs stand. He took up for nonwhites during immigration reform rallies. McCain just isn’t himself. I don’t know what the hell has happened to him.

  3. Republicans count on hate and division. They hate liberals. They hate the press. They hate gays. They hate most religions. They even hate some Christian religions. They hate everyone of different colors except for the few tokens. Hating gives them common ground.
