John McCain now for torture
John McCain was against water torture until he was for it. February 13, 2008 he voted against a waterboarding ban in the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008. McCain has spoken out against torture for years. But, the basest of the base are calling. The bill passed in a 51 to 45 vote.

Forty-five Senators opposed banning this method of torture.

D.C. needs to be purged of these reprobates. I never in all my life imagined I’d live in a country that attempts to legislate in favor of torture. It’s one thing when you have a renegade administration running roughshod over the rule of law. It’s quite another when 45 senators give a thumbs up to torture.

Measure Number: H.R. 2082 (Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 )
Measure Title: A bill to authorize appropriations for fiscal year 2008 for intelligence and intelligence-related activities of the United States Government, the Community Management Account, and the Central Intelligence Agency Retirement and Disability System, and for other purposes.
Vote Counts: YEAs 51
  NAYs 45
  Not Voting 4

McCain responded today that he doesn’t see his vote as inconsistent.

“We always supported allowing the CIA to use extra measures. I believe that waterboarding is illegal and should be banned,” he said.

“My position was very clear. We have said… that we would allow the CIA to use additional techniques that were not in violation of the anti-torture convention, that were not in violation of the Geneva Conventions and were not in violation of the Detainee Treatment Act.”

Here’s one of McCain’s lucid responses following Romney stammering on waterboarding and torture:

After watching this I wonder if McCain even knew what he voted for.
