Meet Donald Crawford, the latest Parenting Fail poster boy.

Indianapolis Police arrested him November 24, 2009 after he called 911 from a strip club to report his tractor-trailer stolen and his child missing.

Huh?  Child at a strip club?  I know, weird.

Police say Crawford was actually too drunk to remember where he parked his truck with his 5-year-old boy inside. Crawford left his child unattended not only in the vehicle, but in a high crime area.

….so he could go and watch naked ladies bouncing around while getting his drink on.

Law enforcement found the boy watching cartoons in the semi with the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

Mom had to pick up her son and the bucket of snake crap from the jail.

Crawford is charged with public intoxication and child neglect.

This video is from Congressman Dan Lipinski’s Town Hall Meeting last week.   In it, Midge Hough attempts to tell the story of her daughter-in-law Jennifer. The 24-year-old was 7 and half months pregnant when she became ill.

The teabaggers scoff and shout.

She went to a hospital.  She had no insurance.  She was told she had bronchitis and was sent home.   The next day, her condition worsened and her husband took her to a different hospital.  He told the admissions desk they did have insurance.  Jenny was seen and diagnosed with severe double pneumonia, septic shock, and respiratory failure.  She was put on a respirator for the next 55 days.  She had a heart attack, a stroke, a brain bleed, and her baby died in the womb.

The bill amounted to over a million dollars and Hough makes the observation that the cost of that bill is going to be spread around to consumers.

Teabaggers laugh.

Hough cannot continue her point however because of the hecklers in the crowd, the legitimate face of GOP constituency: teabaggers.

The teabaggers aren’t fighting for Americans and the American way.  They are fighting for insurance companies to continue to have the power to screw people over, essentially the power to say, your money or your life.

Former VP Candidate Sarah Palin left about a third of her Indiana book fans in a bind.

Crowds waited more than three hours at Borders in Noblesville to get a wristband for the autograph line, then another three hours to get Palin’s signature.  One thousand wristbands were given out.  With 300 people left, Palin bailed on the event.  No reasons or apologies were offered as of yet.

Fans booed her bus and chanted, “Sign our books!” as she prepared to leave.

It is with the heaviest heart and through many tears that I share this story.  My fight for health care reform is a personal one, and one that I feel I need to share. –Veronica De La Cruz, Huffington Post article

I’m thrilled to see Eric De La Cruz’s story being told to an audience as massive as The Huffington Post.  Some of the commenters briefly shared their stories about losing loved ones or loved ones losing everything because of the system that’s in place now putting patients at the mercy of insurance companies.

The grief is difficult to wade through, but I figure, as I figure when I want to dodge any story that’s too painful, if they could live it, the least I could do is read it.

Fort Hood shooting suspect Major Nidal Malik Hasan picked off fellow soldiers with two handguns.   Thirteen are dead.  30 people are injured.  Lt. Gen. Robert Cone explains one of the weapons was reported to be semi-automatic.  The first responder was a woman who stopped Hasan’s killing spree by shooting him.   She was specifically mentioned by Cone; however, he also praised the efforts of the base’s military and civilian police and the soldiers themselves who ripped off their own clothing to start administering first aid to the wounded immediately.

The gunman shot at a facility where unarmed military personnel were receiving medical and dental treatment.

Hasan is in stable condition.

On the House floor, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) read the number of people who would die due to no health insurance coverage in Republican districts around the nation.   Grayson refused to yield time when interrupted.  Eventually, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) asked the clerk to take down the words of the congressman from Florida.  This lead to an adjournment, but Grayson was right back at it when the House reconvened.

Grayson also listed some of the names of those who died with lack of coverage.  He’s been compiling names at his website: Names of the Dead.

The Congressional Budget Office reported Wednesday that the Republican Health Care plan would only help 3 million people whereas the Democratic plan extends coverage to 36 million.

Mansyur has kindly ordered 7,000 skirts for women too broke to measure up to his standard of modesty.

Johns Hopkins School of Medicine learns that children without health insurance are 60% more likely to die from serious illness than insured kids.  The information was gathered for a study that began in 1988 and wrapped up in 2005.  In the 37 states that participated in the research, 117 million children were hospitalized.  Six million children were uninsured and 38,649 died in the hospital.  The most common causes for hospitalization were complications from birth, pneumonia, and asthma.

Southern, Midwestern, and Western states had higher mortality rates than the Northeast.

Uninsured kids appeared to have an increased risk of dying no matter what their illness was.  The study’s results do not include children who died without hospital care or after discharge, which of course means the death rate of non-insured kids is likely higher.

If you haven’t signed the petition for Eric’s Law, please consider it.  Maintaining the current system is not acceptable.

Her determination paid off, and well before midnight more than 500 people signed.

Naturally, since she never stops, she upped the call to a thousand signatures by the weekend.  Let’s face it, the fatter the petition, the better impression it makes.

Honoring her brother's memory with Eric's Law

Since TV Guide reporter Veronica De La Cruz lost her brother in July 2009, she has carried his story from coast to coast hoping Eric’s life and struggle would move people to understand the urgency and necessity of real health care reform.

When does she breathe?

She is hoping to get 500 signatures by the end of today on a petition that lobbies Congress for meaningful reform, one that includes a public option and prohibits discrimination based on preexisting conditions.

Forty-five thousand people die for lack of insurance each year under our present system, and polls indicate support for the public option has never been greater.  Americans must not let Congress leave people at the mercy of the same insurance companies that deny care and claims now.
