A federal prosecutor, assigned to investigating the firing of 9 U.S. attorneys, has popped up on the media radar for a flurry of subpoenas and meetings with defense attorneys. Nora Dannehy was asked to probe the scandal by Attorney General Michael Mukasey. The investigation had been thwarted by former presidential adviser Karl Rove and former White House counsel Harriet E. Miers who both refused to give testimony.
Rachel Maddow delves into why Dannehy isn’t likely to face those problems:
The last hope at Justice is the investigation into the political prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. Fired U.S. Attorney David Iglesias has said, “…the evidence suggests that Rove influenced a U.S. Attorney in the discharge of her duties. This is a very serious matter and needs to be fully investigated since a non-attorney policy adviser has no business influencing the indictment of an elected official.”
