Guantanamo, Torture Slated for Elimination

ht Think Progress

President-Elect Barack Obama appeared last night on 60 Minutes.  Obama said that he would use executive orders to close Guantanamo and end torture as soon as he takes office.  John McCain is given credit for opposing torture, but people seem to forget McCain cozying up to Bush when Bush attached a signing statement to an anti-torture bill that said this is one of the laws that I don’t have to uphold.  McCain also voted against a bill that banned the CIA’s use of torture.  I don’t know why Obama went along with the idea that he and McCain had the same position.  It seems like an important distinction.  At least America won’t be housing prisoners in dog kennels anymore.
