The New York Times and Newsweek are reporting 54 former Democratic and Republican state attorneys general have stepped up on behalf of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman in his appeals case.

They contend the Siegelman case “raised serious First Amendment concerns,” and have asked the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn Siegelman’s conviction.

This makes 10 on top of the 44 who petitioned Congress in 2007 to investigate political motivations behind the prosecution.

60 Minutes details the problems with the case part 1 and part 2.
