A corrupt investigation of a corrupt investigation and corrupt prosecution, Bush and Rove have their fait accompli of corruption at the Department of Justice. In September 2007, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) started an investigation into the possibility of partisan politics in the DoJ’s prosecution of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman (AL).
OSC chief Scott Bloch, whose home was recently raided by the FBI, killed that investigation “saying that he had not authorized it” according to a OSC memo.
From Think Progress: Bloch also diverted focus and attention from other high profile cases, including the political activities of former White House aide Karl Rove and DoJ’s hiring practices:
Among various concerns, the staffers said the office’s probe of the political briefings was overly broad.…They recommend narrowing the focus and completing key interviews before proceeding with the related probe into Rove’s activities.
The career investigators also wrote of their long-standing desire to open a probe into allegations that certain Justice Department officials considered political affiliation in their hiring and promotion decisions. Bloch told them not to open one last August, then approved a limited investigation in November. In their memo, the staffers pushed for more.
Appearing on MSNBC weeks ago, Siegelman said, “All roads lead to Rove.” It’s not paranoia when they really are out to get you. Perhaps truth will out after all.
In a recent speech Mukasey said,
After all, a corruption investigation that is motivated by partisan politics is just corruption by another name.”
The Inspector General and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management conducted the investigation of Bloch. The FBI is the law enforcement arm of the DoJ and maybe DoJ’s saving grace…Or maybe not:
Only with the Bush gang is this set of circumstances even possible — Bloch is ostensibly investigating the Justice Department for its political activities, and simultaneously the Justice Department sends the FBI to raid Bloch’s office and home. What’s more, everybody is probably guilty.”
OSC turns on DoJ turns on OSC. They probably are all guilty. Geesh, Congress!?!
