Feinstein Actually Pins Down Mukasey on Suspension of the 4th Amendment in 2001

h/t Suzanne

TPM’s Veracifier captured the Senate Appropriations Committee exchange between Feinstein and Mukasey. He doesn’t think it’s significant (last sound bite) that Yoo said the 4th Amendment was not applicable in domestic military situations…and given that Padilla was held without due process for so long that’s the way the administration ran things.

Update: Vim and Vinegar expounds on Mukasey’s wretchedness in Right Man for the (Hose) Job.

  1. just out of curiosity-
does anybody have any idea what
    “domestic military operations” means?
has anybody actually waded through reading the patriot act?patriot act 2?
“domestic military operations” are carried out every day in this country.I’m sorry to say but they(bush&co.-maybe as far back as clinton)they have been whittling away at the 4th amendment for quite some time, and for that guy to say that he was not aware of any”domestic military operations” going on is a blatant lie.

but then again I could be wrong.

  2. It means the military can take you without habeas corpus and your life, liberty, and well-being are in the shitter. It means the government becomes the mafia, and you just disappear.

  3. Barack&Co. sure will have a lot of cleaning up to do.

  4. Hell, yeah, kip. He’ll have to deinstitutionalize torture and reign in the powers of the executive office.
