Homeless Vets Tell O’Reilly They Exist

Some of the almost 200,000 homeless vets served up a dose of reality to Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly. They tell O’Reilly they really do exist and suggest naivety on the entertainer’s part.

O’Reilly, vying for village idiot and using his show as the pulpit, claimed there were no homeless vets. He was attempting to call out Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards drawing constant attention to the veterans’ struggles.

Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films went out and gathered interviews with veterans who are homeless. Brave New Films has also set up a page where the citizens can demand that O’Reilly apologize.

And for a look at the people in the trenches with struggling vets, visit the New Hampshire Under the Bridge Project blog.

  1. Just because Bill O’Rielly doesnt like a particular canidate doesnt mean that it is alreight to deny the existence of veterans under the bridges and out in the streets. I personally am a formerly homeless veteran served vietnam era. I now work with the roiugh sleepers. In manchester NH on any given night there are 2000 homeless.
We just held a stand down in novemeber it was attended by 186 homeless veterans, and still there are many who didnt come out.
I think Bill owes and apoligy and he needs to do some community service work with homeless vets and/or contact michael stoops at the national coalition for the homeless at nationalhomelesss.org

  2. Hi, Cindy. Thanks for weighing in. Having been there, lived it, and in the throes of helping others, your voices carries a lot of import.

My father-in-law was a WWII vet. The nation really rallied around the veterans then. He went on to get a PhD., write a book, etc.

Veterans aren’t supported like that any more. It seems like the system does everything it can to let these people slip through the cracks.

For what it’s worth, I personally applaud the nobility of your efforts, and I teach my kids to do the same.

  3. I used to watch Bil O on a regular basis and admired his stance to be “fairand balanced” but he really needs to do a little more research before he says something without fully researching it first. One more person that does NOT restore my dwindling faith in humanity.
