Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) shocks media and pollsters with a victory over Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) in New Hampshire’s Democratic primary Tuesday night. Most polls predicted a Clinton defeat, and pundits followed the lead touting Obama’s strong numbers. The Senator from Illinois came in a second with 36% to Clinton’s 39%. Former Senator John Edwards took third with 17% (91% of votes reported).
Clinton took a populist tone in her victory speech. She castigated Bush as a president representing big business like pharmaceutical companies for 7 years. She talked about putting people first, people who need to can’t afford their mortgage, their bills, people being priced out of the middle class.
Senator John McCain (R-AZ) didn’t go so far as to call himself the “Comeback Kid,” but he embraced the comeback from his loss in Iowa. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney came in second. Huckabee took third.
