U.S. Prodding Saudi King about Blogger

Another good sign that an imprisoned Saudi blogger may be released soon. U.S. State Department Spokesman, Sean McCormack says Fouad Ahmed al-Farhan’s imprisonment has the attention of the administration.

McCormack went on, “Our message to the Saudi Government was pretty clear. It’s what you heard me talk a little bit about yesterday and that is that the United States stands for freedom of expression. It’s an important element of any thriving society. It’s a cornerstone of any democratic society.”

Fouad al-Farhan was arrested in December 2007 for blog content that disputed Saudi government claims.

Here are some translated quotes from Fouad’s sight:

We blog because blogging is a reflection of public life and we are alive.

We blog because we are sick and tired of the Saudi media hypocrisy.
