Surrendering your intellect could make you fit for office in the great state of Mississippi. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) announced this week he’ll be leaving office, and Representative Chip Pickering (R) who appeared in the movie, Borat, is being considered for the position by Governor Haley Barbour. The film showed the congressman at a religious fundamentalist meeting that involved speaking gibberish and sermons mocking science.
Pickering had announced this summer that he would be retiring from Congress to spend more time with his family. However, if the governor appoints Pickering to Lott’s Senate seat, then the congressman will be campaigning to keep the spot. Lott’s seat will be up for grabs again in a special election occurring the same day as the November 4, 2008 general election.
