DESTIN, USA – Six anglers snag the catch of a lifetime, an 844-pound shark.
Adlee Bruner and his fishing buddies spent an hour trying to wrestle the 11-foot mako shark onto their charter boat off the coast of the Florida panhandle. The catch made the record books at the Destin Fishing Rodeo.
Mako sharks can swim up to 60 miles per hour in spurts and jump up to 20 feet in the air.
And in case you feel some sympathy for the beast, here’s a fun fact. Mako embryos in the female’s body eat each other to get nutrients, with only two pups usually produced in a litter. Cannibalism en utero is common in sharks.
